Another from Dale Haskin (USS Laws DD558) |
|
Here's a photo from Victoria Peak showing a task group of seven US Navy vessels in Hong Kong harbor circa. August/September of 1956 . USS Rochester is to the left in the group of major ships that you see in the center of the photo. To the right and slightly above is USS Kawishiwi (AO 146) and beyond that is USS Lexington (CVA 16). There are also two nests of destroyers comprising DesDiv 72 in the photo. The one directly below the carrier contains USS Taussig (DD 746) and USS Laws (DD 558). Off the stern of the carrier is the nest containing USS Hanson (DDR 832) and USS Stembel (DD 644).
Hong Kong's skyline has changed dramatically since 1956 and today, there are so many high-rise buildings that this unobstructed view of the harbor is no longer possible. |
